My USA Visa Was Refused Then New Zealand Changed Everything
Featured
My study abroad journey has been a mix of ambition, unexpected setbacks, and the determination to find a new path forward.
I am Kowshik Saha Joy, originally from Khulna, Bangladesh, although I later moved to Dhaka for my studies and professional career. Recently I successfully obtained my student visa for New Zealand and have been offered a place at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) for the Master of Analytics program, with the July 2026 intake.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2023, achieving a CGPA of 3.54 out of 4.00. After graduation, I began working as a web developer while simultaneously planning for higher studies abroad.
Like many students, my dream destination was the USA. I invested time and effort into that plan, but unfortunately my visa application was refused. That moment was extremely heartbreaking for both me and my family, and honestly, I felt very demotivated. However, I did not completely lose hope. I started exploring other countries that offered quality education along with better visa opportunities for international students.

During that time, I attended several education expos in Dhaka. One random visit to an education consultancy named Eduvisors completely changed my perspective. After discussing my academic background, work experience, and future goals with one of their counsellors, they suggested New Zealand as a suitable destination for me. Before that meeting with Eduvisors, I had never seriously considered studying in New Zealand. But after learning about its education system, welcoming environment, and opportunities, I realized that New Zealand could truly be the right choice for my future.
So, I prepared my documents and submitted my applications for the February 2026 intake. I applied to three universities, and ultimately decided to choose Auckland University of Technology. UT is known as the only university of technology in New Zealand and is ranked among the top 1% of universities worldwide. It is also recognized for its strong international outlook and diverse academic environment. The Master of Analytics program I selected is closely aligned with both my academic background and professional experience. I received my offer letter within 20 days of applying for the February 2026 intake.

- Faced a setback after a USA student visa refusal, which redirected the study plan.
- Discovered New Zealand through Eduvisors, who guided the overall admission and visa strategy.
- Obtained AIP within 30 days and later received final New Zealand student visa approval.
However, the real challenge began at the visa stage. As is well known, documentation plays a crucial role in the New Zealand student visa process. A visa can be granted with strong, accurate documentation, but it can also be refused due to incomplete, incorrect, or misleading information. At the time I received my offer letter, there was only about one month left to prepare all required documents and submit the visa application. My agency looked at my case properly and suggested that I should defer to the July 2026 intake instead, so that there would be enough time to prepare everything properly and avoid unnecessary risk.
However, at that time, my family and I were not fully prepared to delay the plan. I was still emotionally affected after my US visa refusal and wanted to leave Bangladesh as soon as possible. As a result, we initially pushed for applying to the February 2026 intake despite the tight timeline. But my agency didn’t agree to rush it. They clearly explained the situation to my father and emphasized the importance of submitting a well-prepared application rather than a rushed one. After a lot of discussion at home, we finally agreed to follow their advice and go for July intake instead. Fortunately, my chosen course was also available for the July 2026 intake.
Accordingly, they started preparing all the required documentation, including financial documents such as CA reports, audit reports, and other supporting papers, which I honestly had very little knowledge about. I only provided the basic documents required from my side, and they organized and prepared everything according to the visa requirements before finally submitting my visa application.
Then came the waiting period for the AIP. I received my AIP exactly 30 days after submitting my visa application. But those days were extremely stressful and nerve-racking for me. I was counting every single day, waiting for updates, and regularly contacting my counsellor, Ms. Anika, for any news regarding my application status.

Finally, exactly 30 days later, in the evening, Ms. Anika called me and informed me that I had received my AIP. At first, I could not believe it. I kept asking her repeatedly, “Is it real?” After all the uncertainty, stress, and emotional pressure, hearing that news felt almost unreal to me. Yes, I had finally received my AIP, and my happiness knew no bounds. After receiving the AIP, After receiving my AIP, I paid my tuition fees, and within 7 working days and finally received my final New Zealand student visa approval.
Looking back, I truly believe it was one of the best decisions I have made. If I had forced everything for February, things could have gone in a completely different direction, I may not have achieved the positive outcome I received today. I’m grateful that they took the time to properly guide us instead of just pushing the application forward. Their honesty, professionalism, and experience helped me make the right decisions at the right time.
This journey taught me that sometimes delays are not failures, sometimes they are necessary steps toward a better outcome.
