At the age 50, I Turned My Study Gap into My Greatest Strength
Featured
“At 50, most people saw my age, my responsibilities, and my 27-year study gap. I saw a second chance.”
I am a mother of three. For years, my world was built around family, responsibilities, and putting everyone else first. My children, my family, and my responsibilities always came before my own dreams. Somewhere in that long journey, I kept my wish to study again quietly inside me. It never disappeared, but with time, it started to feel distant. I often wondered if it was too late for me. I questioned whether someone of my age, with such a long academic gap, could really start again and apply for a master’s degree in the abroad.
In my academic background I earned a three-year nursing diploma in 1994 from the Armed Forces Medical Institute under Bangladesh Nursing Council, which allowed me to work as an intern at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and see firsthand the agony and helplessness of the sick. Then I did my Bachelors in Social Science from Dhaka College in 1995. After that I also did a Masters in Social Science (Social Welfare) from Jagannath College under National University in 1997.
The truth is, I was afraid. I knew my long study gap would be seen as a challenge. I knew many people would question my decision. Some would think I was too late. Some would think it was impossible. I also worried that universities would not accept someone like me, and that getting a UK visa after such a long gap would be extremely difficult. As a mother of three, I had every reason to stop myself. But still, I did not stop dreaming.

Everything started to change when I contacted Eduvisors. That was the first real step I took toward turning my dream into reality. I opened my file with Eduvisors, and from the very beginning, I was assigned to a counselor named Maesha guided me with patience and care. She listened to my story, understood my concerns, and never made me feel like my dream was too late. That meant a lot to me, because when someone believes in you, it becomes easier to believe in yourself.
They initiated discussions with several universities across the UK regarding my application. After careful consideration, they secured a positive assurance from the University of Wolverhampton, one of the most prominent partner institutions of EDUVISORS. Their counselor, Maesha, thoroughly evaluated my academic background and professional experience, demonstrating strong expertise in the education sector.

- Started a study abroad journey at age 50, proving that it is never too late to pursue higher education.
- Successfully overcame a 27-year study gap with confidence and determination.
- Received continuous guidance and motivation from Eduvisors throughout the entire process.
- Built strong confidence through structured preparation, mock sessions, and expert counseling.
- Successfully passed the visa stage by clearly presenting purpose, experience, and future goals.
With their guidance, I applied to the University of Wolverhampton for the MRes (Master of Research) in Public Health for the September 2024 intake. After carefully evaluating my profile, EDUVISORS recommended this university as the best fit for me, as it offers a supportive, welcoming environment and values students from diverse backgrounds. I also felt that Wolverhampton would understand and accommodate students returning to education after a long gap.
EDUVISORS advised me to pursue Public Health because it strongly aligns with real-life experience, community wellbeing, and the goal of helping people lead healthier lives. Importantly, the subject also closely matches my professional background. I worked as a Nursing Assistant at Dhaka Dental Home from 1996 to 2006. Later, I served as a Regional Coordinator at UCEP-Bangladesh from 2007 to 2016, after which I was promoted to Regional Manager from 2016 to 2018. Most recently, I worked as the Child & Woman Rights Advocacy (CWRA) Manager at Bornomala Adarsho Bidyaniketon, Keraniganj, from 2019 to 2024.
These roles have provided me with practical knowledge of clinical procedures, patient care, and healthcare systems. My professional experience closely aligns with the modules offered in the MRes Public Health program at the University of Wolverhampton, making this course a natural progression for my academic and career development.
Even then, I was nervous. I had so many doubts in my mind because of my long study gap. Then something happened that gave me real hope I received my unconditional offer letter within just two days.
That moment meant everything to me. It was the first time I truly felt that this dream was possible. After so many years away from education, after so much doubt and fear, that offer letter felt like proof that my journey was not over. It reminded me that it is never too late to begin again.
After receiving the offer, I started preparing for the next important step which is the Pre-CAS process. I was nervous again, because after such a long gap, I knew I had to explain myself clearly and confidently. This is where Mr. Najmus Sakib, the Recruitment Manager at Eduvisors, helped me greatly. He guided me through my Pre-CAS mock sessions and helped me prepare for the interview with confidence. Step by step, he made me understand how to present my journey, my purpose, and my motivation in the right way.
The support I received from Eduvisors was not just professional, it felt personal. They understood that this was not just an application for me. It was my second chance. It was a dream I had carried quietly for many years. Eduvisors supported me from the very beginning until the final visa stage, and every time I felt uncertain, she gave me the confidence to keep going.
One of the biggest challenges in my journey was the visa interview. For me, that was one of the most difficult steps. I knew I had to face questions about my age, my long study gap, and why I wanted to return to education after so many years. But once again, Mr. Najmus Sakib stood beside me with full dedication. He took several mock interview sessions with me and prepared me with real care, patience, and honesty. He gave me exactly the kind of guidance I needed at that stage.
What helped me most was the confidence he gave me. Eduvisors never made me feel that my age or my long academic gap was a weakness. Instead, they helped me understand that my journey itself was my strength. They made me believe that age does not stop a person, and a long gap does not end a dream.

Because of his support, I walked into the interview with more confidence than fear. I answered with honesty, with purpose, and with belief in myself. And after the interview, when I finally received my visa decision, that moment is difficult to explain in words. It was not just a visa approval. It was the moment I realized that the dream I once thought was impossible had finally become real.
To be honest, I never thought I would get the chance to apply to the UK. For someone like me with a 27-year study gap, family responsibilities, and the fear of starting over, it felt too far away. But with the help of Eduvisors, my counselor Masha, and the entire team, my dream became real.
Today, when I look back, I do not just see an application process. I see courage. I see persistence. I see a woman who chose not to give up on herself.
To every student who thinks it is too late, to every mother who believes her time has passed, to every person who is afraid to start again, I want to say this clearly: it is not too late. If your dream is still alive, then your journey is not over.
